Guide

What sushi should I order?

A useful sushi choice starts with preferences, not with memorizing every Japanese name. Decide first whether raw fish is welcome, then narrow the menu by flavor, ingredient and spice.

The Sushi Finder below applies those choices only to existing SushiDex entries. Every result links to a full page where you can check the listed ingredients, format and raw-fish indicator.

Commercial roll recipes can change between restaurants, so use the result as a shortlist and confirm the final ingredients on the menu before ordering.

Four decisions that narrow the menu

Start with raw or cooked

The catalogue marks whether each entry normally includes raw fish. Cooked seafood, egg, tofu and vegetable options give you a broad alternative without changing the way you browse the menu.

Choose a familiar ingredient

Salmon and tuna appear across nigiri, sashimi, rolls, temaki and gunkan. Tempura adds a cooked, crisp option, while the vegetarian category groups entries without listed fish, seafood or meat signals.

Use flavor intensity

SushiDex separates delicate, balanced and bold profiles. This helps distinguish a simple topping from entries with richer sauces or more assertive combinations.

Check spice explicitly

Do not assume every tuna or salmon roll is spicy. The spicy indicator comes from each catalogue entry and should still be checked against the restaurant recipe.
